About Incus Data

Coding matters

At Incus Data, we believe CODING MATTERS.

Code is everywhere. Software runs our cars and planes and TVs and phones. It runs our hospitals and banks and government. Good, professional programming is not just important, it is critical.

We are passionate about programming, and we are passionate about teaching. So we do what we love: we teach programmers.

(If you want to know more, check out our philosophy about coding and teaching.)

We’ve been doing this a long time

We’ve been training programmers for more than 30 years.

Renier van Wyk started Incus Data in 1988, and is still our managing director today. Jacqui and Lewis have been directors and co-shareholders for more than 20 years.

Between us, we have more than 70 years experience developing and teaching our courses.

Renier started out teaching the C Programming course. That was the first Incus Data course, and it is still a firm favourite. We’ve had people from countries across the world attend this course – and that was before virtual training.

We are different

We are proud to be a small company with a very clear focus. We are ambitious, but we don’t want to be a big company or to double the number of courses we offer. We simply want to be the very best at what we do.

We are about programming

We focus exclusively on programming courses. So we don’t offer hundreds of courses on anything that might be computer-related. Instead, we choose the technologies we want to teach, based on market demand and our own interests.

We are about training (not selling)

Incus Data is a training company, not a sales company. This is another thing that makes us different: our lecturers are all full-time employees. We all have a vested interest in the long-term success of our training. We don’t sell courses and then find contractors to present the courses.

We are about independence

We are not vendors or partners or sellers of other people’s courses.

We develop our own courses. That means we spend lots of time and money on research. We want to make sure that our courses are up-to-date and in line with international standards.

That means we can customise our courses to match your needs. And we can provide platform- and vendor-neutral training.

Our clients come back

We would love you to buy lots and lots of courses. But ultimately, we want you to get the training that will make a difference to your life. So we want to know what you need and what you want.

It sounds like a cliché to say that we want to build relationships with our clients. But the difference is that, for us, it’s true. Our clients come back. We are privileged to have long-term relationships with many of our clients. Some of our clients have used our training services for over 20 years.

We train developers across a wide range of industries. Here are just a few examples:

  • Banking – our clients include FNB, DBSA and Standard Bank.
  • Manufacturing – our clients include BMW and Schauenburg Systems.
  • Engineering – our clients include DetNet, Etion, and Landis+Gyr.
  • Software – our clients include Q-Link, Business Connexion and Collaborit.
  • Telecommunications – our clients include Vodacom and North Park Telecoms.
  • Medical and insurance – our clients include MMI Holdings and Bestmed.
  • Education – we train the Tshwane University of Technology.
  • Military, science and government – our clients include the National Metrology Institute of SA and Armscor.

What is an Incus anyway?

The word incus is a Latin word which means anvil. Renier liked the idea of a craftsman working to create both practical tools and beautiful objects. The incus is also the name of a small bone in the middle ear, which transmits sound. And communication is an essential part of teaching.
