- A chocolate egg or decorated hard-boiled egg given at Easter.
- An unexpected or undocumented feature in a piece of computer software as a joke or a bonus.
I’m partial to chocolate eggs, but the programming eggs are good too.
Last week I promised a light-hearted email. And I think this will put a smile on your face, because I had lots of fun!
The Google cat
Type in “cat” in Google. On the right of the page you will see some pictures, and a cartoon paw print underneath them. Click on the pawprint. Now click anywhere else on the page.
Isn’t that fun?! (It’s even more fun to see the reactions of your own cat.)
If you not a cat person, it works with “dog” too. But not with “horse” or “mouse” or “bird”.
Remember Friends?
If you are old enough to remember the Friends TV series – or if you’ve watched it anyway, try this. Google one (or all, but individually) of the characters. Then click the icon image next to the name. Here are the names of the characters:
- Ross Geller
- Phoebe Buffay
- Joey Tribbiani
- Rachel Green
- Chandler Bing
- Monica Geller
Feel like a game?
And if you need even more distraction, try typing “snake game” in Google. My poor snake bashed into the walls quite often!
There are more of these – just try typing in pacman or minesweeper.
Or type in chrome://dino in your address bar and press the spacebar.
Deep answers
Not keen on games? You can be a little more esoteric and try one of these:
- the answer to life the universe and everything – if you are a Douglas Adams fan.
- the loneliest number
These are Google Easter eggs, so they don’t work in Bing or DuckDuckGo. But it doesn’t matter what browser you use.
As I have now thoroughly distracted you from work, do me a favour and leave a comment!
